I left Jez's bike. It was raining. I liked the rain. If the bike got ruined, I would fix it, but right now I needed to walk.
For some reason I thought of Marissa. Her best friend crying over her body when I got there. I looked at Ashley, she was a good kid, kept Marissa in line. She looked at me with tears in her eyes.
" Axel? "
I nodded, she was having trouble speaking. I was at a loss, my baby sister dead before me and if I had only been moments earlier, I could have saved her.
" She told me to tell you something. "
I got down on my knee and listened to her.

I love you, Big Brother...

Sometimes I wish I were the rain. That way I could touch people and know what they were feeling when I touched then. Maybe even touch their hearts.

I looked after Axel as he walked home. It was a good distance. I knew Jez woould die if her bike was wrecked so I pushed it under the trees that lined the road. I would have driven it back, but I wasn't good on motorcycles. I was a pansy.

I came out of the bathroom. Everyone was still gone. I left a note on the counter.

Turner street was only a few blocks away. I grabbed my raincoat and umbrella and walked through the greehouse and I was off to find an Ashley Kerwin.
I felt like I was in the Wizard of Oz for some reason. I'll give you two guesses.

Nowhere to Run: Captive

I sat on my knees and prayed. Prayed for me, prayer for her. Marissa.
She was my best friend in the whole world and she got taken from me. It had been years, but I never recovered. Seeing the way her body collided with the windshield of that car, cracking her bones as the glass shattered into shards around me. Her body hitting the pavement, falling limp. I had ran over to her.
" Marissa! No, don't go! " My tears falling onto her lips. Two red roses, her brother had called them, once. Yes, like roses.
I never admitted to her, but I had always had the biggest crush on Axel. I was so nervous everytime I went over their house, how I would react when I saw him. He was fifteen then.
" Don't leave me! "
The driver got out and stumbled, passing out on the sidewalk. Drunk bastard.
" Ash. " Her voice a whisper. She could barely move and I could tell by looking at her eyes that she didn't have that much left in her. The light was already leaving her eyes. " You're going to be okay, we're gonna get you to the hospital and they are going to fix you. I promise. " I stroked her hair.
" One day, you will meet... a girl and she will have a black umbrella. You give this message to her. "
She told me what to say. I nodded and later wrote it down. I trusted her, she always knew what was going to happen before it did.
" Don't ever cry... over me. "
It took her a while to get a sentence out. She was drowning in her own blood, I could hear the gurgling in her throat.
" You're my best friend, don't leave me. Who is going to play the piano for me? "
" Axel... "
" What about him, Marissa? He'll be here in a minute come on! "
" I love you, Big Brother... " She gasped and he head turned to the side.
" NO! Marissa come back! "

I made it to Turner Street, my umbrella dripping with water. I walked around the corner and there was the address I was looking for. I held my breath. There were lights on so someone had to be home.
I took a breath and opened the front gate. I slowly went up the front steps and knocked on the door. No going back now.

I heard a knock on the door and went to get it. I opened the door.
" Hi, are you Ashley Kerwin? "
" Yeah who are-- " All I saw was a black umbrella.
Marissa's words flew back to me.
" One day you will meet a girl with a black umbrella... and you are going to give her a message. "

I saw a girl a few years younger than me when the door opened.
" Come in. " She grabbed my wrist. " I have something for you. "
I was confused and she pulled me up the stairs to her bedroom. I looked around and saw a picture of her and another girl. It was obviously taken a few years earlier. The girl looked like the one I had seen in the darkness. " Umm, who is this? " I picked up the picture and showed it to her. I sas sorrow in her eyes. " That's my best friend. "

I walked in, dripping water onto the floor.
" Jez? " I didn't hear anything, the bathroom and the bedroom was empty. I went into the kitchen to find a note. Gone out for a bit. Love, Jez. I crumpled it. How stupid could she be? I felt fire in my eyes as I threw the bar stool across the room, shattering the window. The rain blew in, making rainbows on the glass. I saw my reflection and the person staring back was not me. It was a killer.

I flew overhead. I would transform on the roof. I thought about that quote, ' I wish I were the rain. ' It made sense and I could relate to it. I would have touched Axel. There is so much pain behind him and a lot more than he admits to.
I would touch Jake, find out how he feels about me. So many mysteries.
Jez, she was pretty open, but she hid a lot from everyone. She cared and she didn't want anyone else to suffer.
I would have touched Ella. What was her story? She died before the rest of us and that wasn't fair, she was the nicest person in the world with the biggest heart to match. Why wasn't it me?

Axel had left a few minutes before me. I paused and looked back at Ella's eyes. She had pretty eyes, even without the light in them. I would never forget the image, though. Blood on ivory, saphire against obsidian. Her colors. It waas just sad that soon, Ella's eyes would be eaten out of her head by vultures.
The keepers of time, vultures. They wait around for someone or something to die and then they clean up the mess of the past, by eating it. Now we know, today, when it becomes yesterday.

" Yeah, Axel. Nice guy, but I never seen him since that night. " She started to cry.

She looked up, " How? "
" I live with Axel. "
" Listen, the reason I knew who you were is because Marissa told me I needed to help you, before she died. "
" What? "
" She had always knew things were going to happen, before they did. She told me I would meet a girl with a black umbrella and I was to tell her a message. "
" What's the message? "
She walked across the room to a chest where she dug under a pile of blankets before bringing out an envelope. It had a black iris on it. I was about to reach out and grab it from her before she pulled it back. " You have to hurry, you don't have much time. Read it when you are all together. "

My phone buzzed. Jez.
" Where the hell are you? "
" I'm on the way home, but we need to all be there, who is there with you? "
" No one. Explain what happened! I thought the next call would be from Jake telling me he found your body in a gutter! "
" I'm sorry Axel, I didn't mean to. "
" I'll talk to you when you get here. " I hung up. I had something planned.

I landed on the roof and changed. I shook the water out of my hair. I saw the window broken.
I froze, had Entei found us? Or worse... them?
I walked cautiously into the kitchen and saw a bar stool on the floor. Axel must have gotten mad again.
I heard a bunch of thumping in the back. I walked down the hallway and saw he was pushing a bunch of furnature against the wall.
" What are you doing? "
" Its for Jez. " He said simply.
I nodded and walked across the large apartment, I would stay as far away from that hallway tonight as I could.

Before I got home I picked up a six pack of beer. Then I made my way down the street to the church I went to. People looked at me, soaked through with rain and carrying beer. They were probably expecting me to have a gun.

I walked home, soaked through with the rain. The envelope tucked away in my pocket. I saw a figure sitting on the steps of the church. Jake? That was Jake. I looked around, no cars coming, I ran across the street.
" Jake, what are you doing? "
" I couldn't save her. "
" Jake, what are you talking about? "
" Ella, I couldn't... " He looked up at my face. Even through the rain, I could see tears.
" Jake, no one could do anything. "
" But if I looked harder, I might have got there in time. She was killed from that horse from Hell. He's real Jez. "

I hung up. They were really pissing me off.

" No, I need to forget. " He took a long gulp and finished the third can.
I swiped my hand and knocked the rest of the beer onto the ground. He looked at me, mad.
" Why did you do that? "
" You need to stop. "
I took his hand, dragging him. " Come on. "
I pulled him down the street and around the side of our building. I grabbed him and pushed him up the fire escape.

I heard a bunch of noises coming form Axel's room. What was he doing?
I heard a thump outside and I walked into the kitchen, seeing Jake clinging to Jez, dripping water on the floor. I looked at her questioningly.
" He's drunk. " I confirmed. It was obvious.
Jez nodded. " Where is Axel? "
" In his room, he has something for you. "
" Can you get him? I have to talk to all of you. "
I looked at her, but her eyes were pleading.
" Okay. " I walked down the hall.

" Jez needs to talk to us. " I said in a soft voice.

I nodded.
" It better be good. " I pushed past her.

" I saw Ella, after she died, in the place. " They all nodded. They didn't question me becasue they knew it depressed me to go there. " She gave me this. " I held up the piece of paper and tossed it to Axel first. He opened it and his eyes widened. He looked up at me.
" You went there? " He asked quietly.
I nodded. He passed it around.
" what does it mean? " Jake asked drunkenly. He was hanging all over Ditz, trying to seduce her. She kicked him on the floor. " Pig. "
I opened my mouth, but Axel spoke first. " Remember the girl that was with my sister? Her best friend? " Everyone shut up and looked at him.
" This is her? " Jake asked. Axel nodded. His eyes darkening.
" She told me, before Marissa died, she gave her a message. " I held up the envelope. " Marissa could tell the future, couldn't she, Axel? "
" Yes, she could. But she was human. "
" She gave Ashley instructions. Ashely wrote them down. Marissa told her one day she would meet a girl with a black umbrella and she was to give this message to her. " They all looked at my umbrella.
" What's the message? "
" We're about to find out. "
I turned the envelope over.

I closed the door behind her. Locking it. I turned the lights out before she could see anything.
" Hello Jez. "
" Axel. "
" Did you have fun this afternoon? " My voice stiff.
" Sure... hanging out with Jake on the front steps of a church trying to get him to stop drinking, getting soaked with rain. Normal Thursday. "
" So you went out? Just like that? "
" You went out. "
" But you didn't call, telling me you were leaving. "
" I left a note. I'm sorry, did I worry you? "
" I was expecting the next call to be from the hospital or the police telling me they had found your body in a gutter somewhere. Which of those makes you think I was worried? "
" I didn't think it was a big deal. "
" That is right. You didn't think. "
" I'm sorry, Axel, I didn't mean to. " I silenced her with a glare. She looked past me to the cleared room.
I closed the distance between us and slammed her back into the door, my body pressed to hers. Her eyes opened wide, making me smirk. I sealed her mouth with mine, forcing my tongue past her lips, snaking it into her mouth. She gave a short battle back before submitting.
" This will teach you to call next time. "

I picked her up to my chest and carried her to the bed, tying her hands together with a scarf. I played with the hem of her shirt, not really thinking about it, and I tore it off her. She squeaked in protest. I yanked the fastening of her jeans open and tore them off her.
" Axel, what are you doing? "
" Which of these will answer your question? " I ripped the rest of her clothes to match.
I put her bound hands over her head and sat back on my knees to look at her. She placed her bound hand over her chest to cover herself.
I put them back, my eyes telling her to keep them there. I took my shirt off, keeping my jeans on.
I trailed my fingers down her stomach, digging in the skin a little. She moaned, as I soothed the scratches with my tongue.
I moved over her to kiss her. grinding my hips against her in a rythmic motion, denim against her bare skin. She gasped, bringing her legs up around me, inviting the feeling and getting a smirk from me. It was easy to please, Jez.
My lips found her throat and found an area to seal themselves so I could give her a love mark. She tried to bring me closer, but I stayed so she would have to endure it. She managed a broken form of my name.
Talk to me this way. I said into her head.
Please. She was begging me.
I reared back to and took one of her legs in my hand, pulling her closer to me. I slid two fingers into her. She gasped silently. I pulled them back slowly, tortorously. She tried to bring my closer by attempting to put her legs around my waist. I removed them after a while. She had tears of frustration at the corners of her eyes.
" Are you going to call me? " I asked her, kissing her chest.
" Yes. " She moaned.
" Are you just trying to give me what I want to hear? "
She didn't answer, but she whimpered. I sighed letting my jeans fall to the floor.
" Axel, I won't do it again. "
I put my lips to her ear. " I'll take that to mind. " One big thrust and a loud moan.
I had meant for it to be slow, but I soon found myself in a world of selfishness.
